For those of us in Central Illinois — the land where Sheen was born, where he was ordained, and where he will be honored — this countdown feels both thrilling and sacred. We have been preparing for this moment for years. Now, it is almost here.
Why This Beatification Matters
Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen was not just a television personality or a prolific author. He was a shepherd who gave his entire life to bringing souls to God. He spent an hour before the Blessed Sacrament every single day of his priestly life, over 60 years without exception. He converted thousands, including prominent public figures. He gave away much of his personal income to the poor.
His beatification is the Church's formal declaration that he is among the Blessed — that his life was one of heroic virtue, and that he is worthy of public veneration. It is one step from sainthood, and it is happening in our backyard.
